ESXi host not reachable after an electricity outage.
Due to a self-imposed electricity issue (pulled out the wrong extension cord 🤡) which caused an improper shutdown to my homelab, my NUC server’s ESXi host client was nonresponsive via the browser, as well as via (previosly enabled) SSH.
I could ping the address, I had DCUI access and ESXi host did respond to local commands or input at the console.
Physically initiated reboots of the host didn’t help so only after a management network restart I regained access via the host client and SSH.
It seems that even in production this could happen after such outages and the following dicussion on the VMware forums was my inspiration to try this as a fix.
Hope this post helps someone else if they find themselves in such a situation.
Specs of the affected host:
Version: ESXi-8.0.0–20513097-standard (VMware, Inc.)
Hardware: Maxtang EHL30 Intel 4 CPUs x Intel(R) Celeron(R) J6412 @ 2.00GHz
